Blue Pillar part of a “SCADA Lite” Case Study for West Dundee, IL

December 23, 2021

The Atlas, a free online community for local government leaders, recently published a case study about a new water data platform for the Village of West Dundee, IL, that relies on BluePillar’s IIoT solution to make it possible. West Dundee serves over 7,300 residents and has 2,600 sewage service connections under management. The new solution replaced the combination of a paper chart recorder and staff observations made on daily rounds.

The case study identifies five, specific outcomes from the upgrade.

  • Village of West Dundee, the FRWRD district and other nearby towns now have shared access to current data necessary to closely monitor water levels in the case of a public safety emergency.
  • The new system was implemented quickly at an affordable price, and with a seamless integration it was easy for staff to access summary data.
  • With a more unified picture of data, staff can now easily use trend data to explain billing anomalies which could not be done before.
  • Staff shortages are no longer a constraint to having accurate datafrom the station, giving staff visibility on weekend flow rates without making the trip.
  • The village saved over $3000 per year in labor costs, not including vehicle time and mileage, as well as the $150 spent yearly on chart paper.  These savings delivered a <6month ROI.

West Dundee Utilities Superintendent, Adam Peters, says, “We’ve been looking for a solution to streamline this problem for quite some time.  Through our engagement with Waterly on the WaterClick platform, we were introduced to Blue Pillar.  The Blue Pillar solution was simple and, most importantly, affordable.  It made this decision a no brainer and we’re delighted with the outcome.”
