Covalen and Blue Pillar Partner to Deliver Revolutionary IIoT Technology Platform to Water and Wastewater Sector

June 16, 2021

Indianapolis, IN – June 16, 2021 – Covalen, a distributor and technology provider to the water and wastewater industries in the Midwest and Carolinas, and Blue Pillar, a leading Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) network solutions provider for equipment-based connectivity and control systems, recently announced a partnership to bring Blue Pillar’s revolutionary IIoT platform to the water and wastewater sectors. With over 20 years of experience in solving challenges for municipalities and developers, Covalen was searching for a robust technology platform to support the remote connectivity and control needs of their customers. That search ended with Covalen selecting Blue Pillar as its technology partner. Blue Pillar has a successful 15-year track record of providing secure connectivity and control to some of the country’s most critical infrastructure with hundreds of customers and thousands of connected assets across the healthcare and energy industries. Blue Pillar expanded to the water and wastewater space in 2019 to solve challenges brought to them by partners. Covalen noticed Blue Pillar’s simple and affordable approach combined with the unmatched expandability of its platform as a unique opportunity to expand the use of IIoT technology in water and wastewater.

“Given our years of experience in water and wastewater, we’ve seen a number of technology solutions attempting to solve our customer’s remote connectivity and control needs,” says Bob Jordan, Covalen Sales Leader. “Whether it was dedicated auto dialer lines, radio devices, or cellular-based SCADA products, solutions have been developed over the years with varying degrees of success. Blue Pillar’s technology is a breakthrough leap forward for water and wastewater due to its flexibility, expandability and affordability.”

Covalen selected Blue Pillar for three primary reasons. First, unlike traditional water technology solutions, Blue Pillar’s connectivity doesn’t stop at the specific pump, well or water specific piece of equipment. The Blue Pillar IIoT platform is open to connect and control any piece of equipment and device located at these remote stations. This expandability delivers the breadth of insight and control operators need today. Second, Blue Pillar can integrate the data collected back into a customer’s existing SCADA or central plant monitoring system. This makes Blue Pillar a true extension of central plant systems without the need to replace what is already in place today. Finally, the platform leverages breakthroughs in IIoT technology to deliver all of

this capability at significantly increased reliability and a fraction of the cost of traditional remote connectivity solutions.

Bob Jordan added, “Blue Pillar was a clear choice for us. Our customers want connectivity and control to their remote stations that goes beyond the pump or the meter. With Blue Pillar, we can deliver full connectivity to these locations for $2,500 - $4,000 per station vs. traditional solutions in the $8,000 - $15,000 range. That’s a no brainer and unlocks this data and control capability at a price point all of our customers can afford.”

“We’re extremely excited to be partnering with Covalen to bring our IIoT platform to the water and wastewater space,” says Jeff Pontius, Blue Pillar CFO and Water / Wastewater GM. “Covalen’s depth of water and wastewater experience, and knowledge of their customer’s challenges and needs, made this an easy decision.”

Covalen and Blue Pillar are excited to be working together to solve the remote station connectivity and control needs of water and wastewater operators.
